MITRAGYNINE PICRATE(Cas 4098-40-2) Usage

Description

Mitragynine picrate is an alkaloid extracted from Mitragyna speciosa Korth. While it is amorphous in its natural state, it can form various crystalline salts and derivatives. The hydrochloride crystallizes as colorless leaflets with a melting point (m.p.) of 243°C, the picrate forms orange-red needles with an m.p. of 223-4°C, and the methiodide is an amorphous, pale yellow powder with a sharp melting point of 211.5°C. Additionally, mitragynine can form compounds with acetic acid (m.p. 142°C, decomposing at 175-6°C) and trichloroacetic acid (m.p. 157°C).

Chemical Properties

White to Off-White Solid

Uses

Mitragynine exhibits a general depressant effect on smooth muscle and aids the passage of autonomic impulses. While it lacks efficacy against pathogenic organisms, it functions as a neurochemical with stimulant and opiate-like effects, depending on the dosage. Currently, research is ongoing to explore the potential of mitragynine in treating hard drug addiction.
